*What is protein over load you ask? if you have low to medium porosity hair your protein and moisture balance is off balanced. You have too much protein in your hair and the symptoms are very dry and brittle hair, your texture and curl pattern has changed drastically and you are experiencing excessive shedding. If your hair is snapping easily or feels like straw and has no natural shine you have protein overload.
Don't worry this can be reversed, with persistence you can recover.
The key to fixing this is moisture, moisture, moisture!! You will need to wash your hair with a clarifying sulphate free shampoo then deep condition your hair with a moisturising conditioner. Applying heat with conditioning will help the moisture to penetrate your hair. Use a moisturising leave in conditioner to reinforce the moisture and seal your hair with oils like Jojoba Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Argan Oil, Sweet Almond Oil or Avocado Oil concentrating on the ends and damaged areas. don not was and go or style your hair, put your hair in a protective style such as twists, plaits or two cane rows. Spray hair with water every now and again. Do this routine once a week until you see improvements, STAY AWAY FROM PRODUCTS WITH PROTEIN. Once you see improvements you can use a protein conditioner once a month. *You can also use deep hair mask treatments (oil based), this is applied before shampoo, then washed with a clarifying shampoo followed by a deep condition*
